others

I find things on the internet. Sometimes I share them on Mastodon, and sometimes I just don't think they are worth sharing but are still interesting. These are (mostly) things made by others, that I couldn't really find a good spot for. It is sort of an archive. Sort of a feed.

Problems with Godot Engine CharacterBody3D

I've been following Freeman for some time now. He is extremely passionant person, and have a great understanding of what makes a good character controller. He has been working one for some time now, but have unfortunantely run into various problems (mastodon) with how Godot Engine handles physics.

While I am not a physics guy, and to be honest, I am not totally familiar with everything he is doing, I do appreciate his research. And him reaching out for help on the matter seem amazing!

When Multimedia was Black & White

HyperCard looking graphics with the title Macintosh & HyperCards was never part of my childhood. I only been using Windows until early 2010's. But seeing those graphics from 90s Macintosh gives the same feeling that Windows 95 gives me. In this piece, Kevin Steele, gives a little insight into what HyperCards were (or is, seems like it is coming up a little bit again). And how it involved into games such as Myst. I might slowly strive more towards this design for my website!

Dwarf Fortress Bugs (Mastodon)

Goofing around on Mastodon and I found this account (mastodon) that simple posts bugs from Dwarf Fortress.

Reverse Engineering and reprogramming the EEPROM in an APC Symmetra LX UPS

I haven't seen the channel, Rinoa's Auspicious Travails, before. But, the thumbnail and title totally caught my attention. Really nice and clean reverse engineering video, even for someone who is really not in that field. I really enjoyed checking out the application itself and just getting proper access to this kind of technology. As always, big fan of Right to Repair. Otherwise the world is just way to screwed :-) I was trying to look if Rinoa had a Mastodon account but couldn't find anything, seemed like someone I would love to follow.

The Tipping Point

I studied together with some of the people from Fabula Studios, and I remember one of them mentioning this last year. Happy to see the first teaser and I am excited to follow it some more.

Improved rice cooking approach to maximise arsenic removal while preserving nutrient elements

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0048969720368728

I wanna try this. First time I have seen a science paper on cooking. And I strive to make excellent rice! The illustration and text is not crazy scientific, so you could easily do it yourself at home.

RAD Reader

This was more a "save for later!". Looks to be a super clean and minimal RSS reader. I love the little quote:

"It's like a pokedex for personal websites"

This video just went straight into inspiration mode; a perfectly captured aesthetic and mood.

After I watched derealization above, then YouTube algorithm just started through crazy counter-strike videos at me.

Where have all the websites gone?

An article from Jason points on what I am also seeing a lot right now, admittedly through NeoCities and Mastodon accounts. There is such a strong urge from so many people to "get away from what the internet has become". I'm not sure how late I am to this party, but from the looks of it, it seems to be growing a lot. And it is just so refreshing to explore all of these new weird sites, but also finding people with completely different interests of mine.

Abiotic Factor

I totally forgot about this game and Wow! It looks so good. There is really a weird mixture going on in this game from the looks of it:

  • SCP mixed with Half-Life aesthetics
  • Survival mechanics smashed into old-school First Person Shooter
  • Bunch of modern mechanics

It honestly looks to become a real great game and with games like Lethal Company and Deep Rock Galactic. Then this just seems like a perfect hit in this area. Unsure why they are getting so little views though? Regardless I am hyped!

WHYT011

Aphex Twin-esque. I am not familiar with Lanark Artefax. Thumbnail and video graphics got me. Music is freaking great and now I really want the WHYT011 vinyl.
